A Little Help Getting Back on My Feet – Rent Assistance

I don’t usually ask strangers for help, but sometimes life puts you in a position where you have to set your pride aside and ask for a little kindness.

I’m a single dad living in California, three years removed from a difficult divorce. Without getting into the personal details, I made the difficult decision to remove myself and my children from an unhealthy situation so we could have a more stable and peaceful life.

Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to keep moving forward. I’m raising my two children and also caring for my nephew, whom I’ve adopted. We currently live in a one-bedroom apartment, and for the past three years, I’ve been sleeping on the couch so my family can have the space they need.

I work full-time, and my daughter is attending community college while also working part-time. Despite everyone doing their best, the cost of living in California makes it incredibly difficult to stay ahead. Between rent, everyday expenses, and unexpected car repairs, it often feels like I’m robbing Peter to pay Paul.

My monthly rent is $2,250, and I’m humbly asking for help covering one month of rent, or even half of it, if that’s what someone is able to contribute. Ideally, having one or two months of rent covered would give me the breathing room I desperately need to catch up financially and get back on stable ground.

I don’t expect anyone to take care of my responsibilities, and I certainly don’t feel entitled to anyone’s generosity. I’m simply hoping that someone who is in a position to help might find it in their heart to lend a hand.

Whether it’s $5, $20, or more, every little bit would genuinely make a difference. Even if you can’t contribute financially, taking the time to read my story means something.
