I Survived Something That Was Supposed to Take My Life — Now I’m Trying to Rebuild

My name is Aleyah, and I never thought I would be writing a post like this.

A few months ago, my life changed completely when I became critically ill with a flesh-eating bacterial infection that led to severe septic shock. I went from living my life to fighting to stay alive. I needed emergency surgeries, blood transfusions, and months of recovery afterward. I lost a significant amount of tissue and muscle, and although I am incredibly grateful to still be here, healing has been a long and difficult road.

Surviving was the first battle. Figuring out how to rebuild afterward has been another.

While I was in the hospital fighting for my life, I also lost my best friend — my dog Brody. He had been by my side for years, and losing him during the hardest moment of my life was a heartbreak I never expected to face. Coming home meant healing from my injuries while also grieving a loss that was impossible to prepare for.

Right now, I am struggling with basic necessities while trying to recover. My phone bill is $48 and is at risk of being shut off. My phone is my connection to medical care, opportunities, communication, and the outside world.

On top of my recovery, my boyfriend is currently incarcerated, leaving me trying to handle everything on my own. His bond is $1,200, but my immediate focus is simply staying stable and taking care of the necessities in front of me.

Any help would go toward:

- Keeping my phone on
- Groceries
- Gas
- Wound care supplies
- Food and care for my animals

I know everyone has their own struggles, and I don't take anyone's kindness for granted. Even sharing this post helps more than you know.

I fought incredibly hard to survive. Now I’m trying to rebuild my life one piece at a time.

Thank you for reading my story and for any kindness you can offer.

— Aleyah
