Hi everyone! I keep seeing "demantoid" mentioned in luxury magazines. I know it’s a green garnet, but why is it so much more expensive than other garnets? What makes it a "collector's stone" compared to a regular green gem?

Hello! The reason demantoids are so prized is their incredible "dispersion," which is basically the stone's ability to split light into rainbow colors. It actually has more "fire" than a diamond. Most garnets are quite common, but the demantoid variety—especially from Russia—is exceptionally rare. This rarity is why it is a staple in the world of gemstones and high end jewelry. Plus, they have those famous "horsetail" inclusions that collectors go crazy for because they are like a natural signature of the Ural mountains. If you want a green stone that sparkles more than an emerald and has a much deeper history, the demantoid is the absolute king of the garnet family.
