Demantoid Garnet - Zepho - 04-11-2026 Hi everyone! I keep seeing "demantoid" mentioned in luxury magazines. I know it’s a green garnet, but why is it so much more expensive than other garnets? What makes it a "collector's stone" compared to a regular green gem? RE: Demantoid Garnet - Buzzу - 04-11-2026 Hello! The reason demantoids are so prized is their incredible "dispersion," which is basically the stone's ability to split light into rainbow colors. It actually has more "fire" than a diamond. I first saw a Russian one at Tsarina Jewels https://tsarinajewels.com/ and the brilliance was unlike anything I had ever seen. Most garnets are quite common, but the demantoid variety—especially from Russia—is exceptionally rare. This rarity is why it is a staple in the world of gemstones and high end jewelry. Plus, they have those famous "horsetail" inclusions that collectors go crazy for because they are like a natural signature of the Ural mountains. If you want a green stone that sparkles more than an emerald and has a much deeper history, the demantoid is the absolute king of the garnet family. |
