10 Things To Expect, According To Experts
Dating an older man can be great. But he',s been in the game longer than you. And there are a few things you should know before hopping into a relationship.
>>> GO TO SITE <<<
Dating An Older Man? Here's Exactly What To Expect. Do you get turned on by thought of a man who's got his 401K all figured out? Or maybe a salt-and-pepper beard just gets you going? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might want to consider dating an older man. Don't worry, you're in good company. Amal and George. Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Blake and Ryan. These celebrity couples all have age gaps that span at least 10 years. And they all seem to be making it work. But there are a few things you should consider before jumping into a relationship like this, including emotional maturity, finances, children, ex-wives, and so much more. So I tapped two relationship experts, Chloe Carmichael, PhD, and Rebecca Hendrix, LMFT, to break down the most important things you should consider before dating an older man. 1. You may not be in the relationship for all the right reasons. We don't really know who someone is for the first two to six months of a relationship," Hendrix says. So it's really important to ask yourself why you're so attracted to any person, but especially one that's significantly older than you. You could be projecting stereotypes on to them just because of their age, Hendrix says. Maybe you think they're more settled or assume that they travels lot because you met on vacation in Tulum, but the truth is they're not even looking for commitment and they only go on vacation once a year. If you're attracted to someone older, Hendrix usually advises her clients to just bounce the idea off of someone you trust first. 2. He may have a lot more—or a lot less—time for you. If your S.O. is an older man, he may have a more flexible work schedule (or even be retired, if he's way older), which means more free time for you. This can be refreshing for many women, says Hendrix, especially if you're used to dating guys who don't know what they want (out of life or in a relationship). But the truth is, this grateful feeling can be fleeting. "The things that are very attractive or exciting to you right now are likely to be the same things that annoy or concern you later on." "The things that are very attractive or exciting to you right now are likely to be the same things that annoy or concern you later on," Hendrix says. Fast-forward a year into the relationship, and his less-than-busy schedule could feel stifling, Hendrix warns. Maybe he wants to go on romantic weekend getaways every Friday, but you can't leave work until 8 or 9 p.m. because you're still climbing the corporate ladder and have a **few** more years of grinding to do. You may find that you two have different ideas about how you want to spend your time together. On the flip side, you might find that an older man has less time for you than you'd hoped. If he's in an executive-level position at a company, he might work late nights, which means dinners out with you aren't going to happen often. Or perhaps he's just a man of routine (fair, at his age), and work has trumped everything else for so long, quality time just isn't on the top of his priority list. Are you cool with this? If not, and this is the case, you might want to have a chat—or date younger. 3. You might not be as emotionally mature as you think. Yes, I said it! He's been in the game longer than you, which means he could be more emotionally intelligent. But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. You want someone who knows how to fight and handle conflict, Hendrix says. But you have to be sure you're on the same emotional maturity level as him. Otherwise, "all of the things that can tend to make a relationship work—shared experience, values, communication, ability to handle conflict—could become obstacles or areas of disconnect," Hendrix says. An older man might not want to play the back-and-forth games of a younger gentleman. Instead, he might be super direct and feel comfortable saying exactly what's on his mind, Carmichael says. But are you? Dating an older man might require you to become more vulnerable and let down a few your typical guards. Dating today is hard with a capital H. Some much-needed guidance to make it easier: 4. There might be an ex-wife or children in his life. If he's got more than a couple years on you, then he's likely had a couple more relationships, too. And one of them may have even ended in divorce. Again—not a bad thing. If your man has been through a marriage that didn't work out, "they tend to approach the second marriage with more care and wisdom, bringing along lessons they learned about themselves as a partner in the previous relationship,” Carmichael says. (Woot!) That said, if he has kids from that relationship, that's something else to consider. How old are his kids? Does he see them often? Will you be involved in their lives? This requires a serious conversation. Integrating into his family could prove to be more difficult than you thought, especially if he has older daughters, Carmichael says. Studies show daughters are less receptive to bringing a younger woman into the family, she notes. 5. Your life trajectories could be headed in completely different directions. If the older man you're seeing is someone you're seriously considering spending the future with, you may want to actually talk about your futures. Chances are, he may have a completely different picture of what the next 10 or 20 years look like. "Even if you were dating someone your own age, you wouldn't want to assume they had the same trajectory for their life as you did," Carmichael says. And you definitely don't want to do that in a relationship with a sizable age gap, since they probably have a more concrete picture of the next few years. Maybe you want to get married and have two kids, move out to California, and retire somewhere on a vineyard in Napa. But he's been there, done that. He has the kids, a retirement house in Palm Springs, and is one alimony check away from hiding his money somewhere on the Almalfi coast. (Let's hope not.) It's important to understand what both of you want your lives to look like in the future. Try saying: "I know that you’ve probably already done a lot of the things in life that I want to do," Carmichael recommends. Then ask him if he'd be willing to do those things (think: marriage, kids, traveling often), again. This gives the person a chance to say, "Yeah, I’d love a second chance at doing those things," or "No, I'm more interested in enjoying my freedom." Either way, after this conversation, you can make an informed decision about whether your futures actually align. Age gap, schmage gap. These celebs make it work! 6. Your sex drives may not be the same. "Within every couple, regardless of age, there’s always someone who wants more sex or less sex," Hendrix says. "But that can be even more pronounced with big age differences. An older person has an older body, and older body can tend to have less energy and a different sex drive." But this can also be solved by discussing sex openly and whether both of your needs being met. It's not a deal breaker. just a tough conversation. This content is imported from . You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. 7. Your communication styles might be different. According to Hendrix, older men tend to be good communicators because they have been in serious relationships and they want to get it right this time (remember: emotional maturity). But you might reach a point of conflict when it comes to the style of communication. "How that filters down into day-to-day connection might have to be negotiated in the relationship," Hendrix says.

As shocking as this bond may seem at first, you soon tend to realize this sort of dynamic comes with its own set of pros that are worth looking into. While we do not bat an eyelid when a man dates someone half his age, the other way round can make one’s tongue go wild. “She’s older than him. Let’s see how long it will last.” “What does he even see in her?” “She’s quite the cougar and a seducer, there’s simply no love there.” These are some of the remarks that are still casually passed around when people witness older woman younger man relationships. One of the best movies I watched on this theme was Cher . The story revolves around a young boy, Cheri, who is in love with an older woman, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. As delightful as the screenplay was, there was so much about the storyline and message of the movie that appealed to me. The movie made it clear that despite the insecurity associated with such a relationship, women desire younger men for their vitality, whereas men desire older women for their maturity and poise. And it really makes you think: what could be the harm in that? Interested in knowing more such facts about older women dating younger men? Then let’s start with some statistics. Older Woman Younger Man Relationship Statistics. Table of Contents. Analysis of collated data from the US Census Bureau proves to be revelatory. Out of 100 U.S. marriages, 12 involve an older woman and a younger man. It would suffice to say that more than 1 in 10 marriages in America is that of an older woman and a younger man. Through the same methodology and from the same source, it can be deduced that about 14.8% of heterosexual couples are engaged in an older women and younger man relationship. 6.9% of women in the census correspond to a 2–3 years age gap between the wife and the husband, with the wife being older. The percentage decreases with the increase in the age gap. 0.7% of women in the survey are 15 years older or above than their spouse. A 2021 article by Today.com quotes a survey, probably led by them, that indicates: “81% of women are open to dating someone 10 years younger than they are, and nearly 90% of men are interested in dating someone 10 years older”. Now to move on to some older woman younger man relationship statistics which talk about the motivation behind such relationships. A poll by AARP with 3,500 participants revealed that fun and companionship were major motivations. People also responded with “relationship compatibility, aligned expectations, likes/dislikes”, but further down the list. It is interesting to wonder that when fun is concerned, does age matter in a relationship? On the one hand, what these statistics indicate is that there is a lacuna in dedicated surveys done to ascertain the growth of such relationships. At the same time, it is clear that a mature woman dating a younger man may not be a very common occurrence, however, it not only exists but is flourishing. Percentages may be low, but the numbers are promising. 12 Facts About An Older Woman Younger Man Relationship. It is surprising to know that one-third of women between the ages of 40 to 69 prefer dating a much younger man. An AARP poll in the U.S. came to the conclusion that one-sixth of women who are in their 50s preferred being in a relationship with men who are in their 40s. Let’s talk about Leo Grande. The beautifully tender film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande floored the entire world when it premiered at the Sundance in June 2022. Starring Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack, the film engages in a young and old relationship between a man and a woman. Although the “relationship” depicted in the film is a temporary sexual alliance, the film is a sensitive portrayal of age, sex, intimacy, and connection, and how they correspond to each other. The spark in the eyes of the young man in the film shows that even men love dating an independent woman who might be older than him but has a strong character, is responsible, and well-established in life. The elegance of maturity can be very attractive for a man. For many, the older woman younger man relationship works wonders and can last a lifetime. In some third-world countries, there is also the idea associated that when the woman is older in a relationship, she brings luck to her younger beau. Well then, who exactly are we to pass negligent judgments? It’s now time to say goodbye to all your preconceived notions as we unwrap all that surrounds the concept of older women dating younger men. There’s no good or bad assessment of such relationships. But these 12 facts are sure to be eye-opening in understanding what makes such relationships so very unique. Let us help you get acquainted with the top 12 facts of older woman younger man relationships. 1. There is a great deal of sexual compatibility. Research has shown that women reach the peak of their sexual life when they hit their 30s and 40s, and men do so when they hit their 20s. This means that the sexual compatibility between younger men and older women is usually impeccable. In fact, this is the older woman younger man relationship advice that many psychologists and sociologists even give out. Ray Loomis, a software engineer based in Atlanta and in an extramarital relationship with a much older woman, said, “It is nice to be looked up to by your wife and for me to take the lead in the bedroom, but it is nothing compared to the excitement of a relationship with a woman who knows herself and what she wants. If you suggest a weekend away, she is into the idea more than you because she is so tired of all the responsibilities that she is totally up for having some fun.” Dr. Shefali Batra, a senior consultant psychiatrist and mindfulness-based relationship expert, had a similar insight to offer. She said, “I recall seeing a 25-year-old man living with a 36-year-old woman, the two had met on a dating site. The relationship was initially sexually focused. She was older and better experienced and had a lot to offer to the young and energetic hormones of the man. The focus was not as much on commitment as on sexual pleasure. “They did live together. She was divorced and happy to gain the fresh attention of a young and dynamic lover with a high sexual drive and he enjoyed the seasoned homemaker experience that came as an added bonus. Regardless of age, all relationships have their glue that keeps people together as well as toxins that plague them. This couple came to me for relationship advice as they were unsure of the future of their bond. And on assessing the relationship motivation, it was clear that sex was the principal driver.” 2. There is a financial ease in an older woman younger man relationship. With women stepping into the work field, breaking the glass ceiling more than ever, and taking up higher-paying jobs too, the wage gap between the two genders has reduced a bit. There is a long way to go but we are indeed on the right road. Also, women are generally considered more sincere and time-efficient than men in the workplace. This adds to them being viewed as more reliable and dependent. A majority of men are also growing comfortable with the idea of older women earning more and being more focused on their careers. In the same way, women are not bothered by their younger boyfriend/spouse earning less. Stay-at-home dads are now starting to become a reality as female-led relationships take the world by storm. For men who want to resist the burden of patriarchal pressure, this type of relationship works perfectly for them, as it puts both people on equal footing. With that, budgeting becomes easier and one can purchase bigger homes and better cars together. Even vacations can be more lavish. There is no denying the fact that older women are not just emotionally but financially secure too, and this, in turn, gives the relationship more stability. 3. Health-wise, an older woman younger man relationship makes more sense. The life expectancy of women is five years more than men, and according to a BBC study, this particular trend is caused by lifestyle changes, not by biology alone.

Click here for Relationship with older women and younger man
Young women prefer older men because of their wealth and high social status, which makes them good providers for the offspring. The men maximized their ‘evolutionary fitness’, that is, ability to pass on their genes to future generations, by marrying women who were 14 years younger, and vice versa. The most couples failed to marry with the huge age difference, usually settled for a small difference. Most of the times, men like their women to be younger, because they feel nice to have a younger woman on their side.It probably adds to man's ego.They also want women to be pretty and that also has to do with mans ego.Woman wants stability in life and security, they think having an older, mature husband gives them a feeling of safety.However, we shouldnt generalize-love is everywhere. i find that many men dont wannar married until they are successful . most of men , whether he handsome or not , they wanna his wife are beautiful , nice ,yonng ,slim and well -education. I think men like beautiful and young girls. They judge females by appearance at first. And if they have younger wives, others may think they are rich and have power. Mr_lipira i was thinking of replying to this guy in the same way and cud'nt have said it better. It is amazing that your insight is so lovely and i am sure the others agree with u as well. One cannot just think abt oneself and what is a marraige when u don't think abt yr partner first..Bingo.. I think marrying is not an issue of age differences.What matters is how you feel for the person and if you can't live without this person. yes, agree with you. marrying is not about age. older man can marry younger woman, and younger man can marry older woman. It depends on the maturity of themselves. Marrying a younger woman depends on individual specifications and desires. I have seen young men marry older women, but mostly it is bacause of financial stability. Though some marry out of love, most men marry younger women because they took their younger years building their future and when time reached for them to marry, their agemate (women) have reached menopause. so they prefer younger women because their fertile years are more. Lol. Am not really sure. Yes, say this out,I am agree with you. But, for the man that marrying older woman, it is okay. Because the reason to marrying someone is because of -LOVE- men generally marry younger women because her years of childbirth with marriage are limited. A man can father children much older than a woman can give birth. Consequently, women are generally attracted to older men because he may have wealth. Men are attracted to younger women to continue the propagation of the species. In truth, in modern society, these rules have become blured. Now, many couples settle for a small age gap because the rules no longer apply blessed be. I'd like to marry younger women .but not too young.I think about 2-3 years is good.but right now I didn't have the idea of marriage.I am not rich both in spirit and substance.I need to experience more.I wanna married with someone before I am 30.nevertheless I am 27 now.I hope that I can find the other half of mine. Me too prefer just younger than me 2-4 years. Want to get married at the age of 25. Now Iam 20. But not yet find a girl worth to make a good wife. Hi,there! I think usually men prefer to marry younger women cause they could have the feeling that they can protect the women and give them a good life.The other thing is that younger woment look young and nice.Maybe they like hear the praising words from others that they've got young and good looking wives.It makes them feel successful.The other reason might be the social issue.The tradition tells us that usually men are older than their wives.That's a good match for both. Thanks for the discussion and have a nice day^_^ many men think they should make money or make their careers before their marriages.in the present time being,the society puts more pressure to everyone.when one marry,he must own a house or apartment,and maybe a car is necessity.so men must earn enough money firstly.and young women like old men,maybe for men's money or society statue or young women just want to live a better life.that's all. Well for older men it could be superficial. Men are creatures of vision, no doubt (women are too, but hey, no one cares bout that side of the coin. -_-) Unfortunately plenty of people don't realize that there are other older men who end up with younger women because they are vastly superior to the venom spewing, verbal and emotional abusing ex-wife" they had. A final thing, women go for older men a good deal of the time in the various age brackets, so should there be surprise if a pair up with young and old happens? -_- Okay, you disagree on some of my points, but as you know this is okay with me, I do think that we all make generalizations its true (note all my responses that say blanket statement alert) but I do think each person is an individual and have different reasons for their actions. That said - I love that you actually read the entire ramble that I wrote! I will search for the thread you noted in here. Can you explain further your comment on my crush on an older guy though? When I first read the mylot alert - I thought we mylotters would be giving points but I guess not. For the comment on my crush - are you saying that I didn't have that 'more' to give? Alright thanks for sharing this one, its different. But did you ever note that plenty of guys do not want relationship either on personal choice or because they realize women won't take them if they are not established? I've seen that personally. CAn you relate this to what I was saying - because I didn't leave mike because he wasn't established. And in fact the funny thing with Mick - the older, established one, is that other people were suprised I was with him - seeing me more with an artist type.

These women imagine themselves forever living as a single old maid with her entourage of too-many-cats. One guy even stated, “Women older than me keep messaging me. Sorry, but that’s not going to happen.” What is this guy is thinking? He must have never been with an older woman before. He mustn’t realize how amazing older women are — especially why dating older Asian women can be great. I bet you’ve fantasized about the idea even if you haven’t had the chance to score one of these alluring ladies yourself. Dating An Older Asian Woman. We all know you’re more evolved than the average young man. You’re not a “typical” guy. You’re different and you understand the beauty of dating older Asian women. There’s some data proving young men are stepping up to the older women plate. So it’s time to play ball and start meeting attractive older women looking for younger men ! Elite Singles studied 450,000 people on their dating site and learned men between 20 and 29 prefer dating older women. Shocker! Maybe being with an older Asian woman is a fantasy that you’ve been wanting to experience. Or maybe you’ve found some reasons why dating an Asian woman is amazing. You’re in luck either way, because we have some fabulous tips for you to be on your merry way to meeting that Asian honey you’ve been dreaming about. 1. You Need To Be In The Right Locations To Find An Older Asian Woman. According to Teresa Hsiao at Huffington Post , finding an Asian woman isn’t terribly different from other women. However, you’ll need to hit the right places and say the right things. One of those is at the mall! Pinkberry and the library are other notable places you’ll find Asian women hanging out. Finding and meeting Asian cougars isn’t that different from most women, you’ll find older women at regular places like dance and yoga classes, and concerts. However, cougar dating sites are probably the easiest way to find Asian women. 2. Complement Her Interests And Get Her Number. Now that you’re in the right spot and you’ve found an older Asian woman you’re interested in, it’s time to start a conversation. Whether that be at some place like the mall, Pinkberry or a bookstore, it’s all about connecting with what Asian women enjoy. Hsiao indicates that’s tech and fashion for most Asian women. If you can get her excited to share her interests with you, you’ll be in the right ballpark. Don’t talk about her looks, but do talk about her interests. Whether it’s that cute key chain she has of a manga character, her phone bling, or her outfit — talk to her about it. She’ll get excited, which means she’ll get excited about talking to you. Once you’ve broken the ice, it’s easier to get her number. She’s already enjoying talking to you about what she loves. Transition that into asking for her number so you can talk a little more about it over coffee or a bite to eat. 3. Don’t Talk About Her Being Asian Outright. No woman likes when a guy harps on her looks and that’s especially the case for Asian women. They’re often the interest of plenty of guys simply because they’re Asian and they’re tired of dealing with it. The second you show too much interest in solely her looks of her ethnicity, she’ll likely go running for the hills. I have a friend with a different look than most women in her town and she got so tired of hearing the words: “You look so exotic!” She would silently scream “Ugggghhhh!” inside her mind. Every. Single. Time. The simple rule here is to treat an older Asian woman much like you would any other race. Don’t talk about it and certainly don’t be creepy. 4. Learn How To Read The Signs. This is no different from any other older woman. You have to learn how to read the signs she’s into you to begin with. If you miss the signs or mistake them for more than they are, you’ll spin your wheels and go nowhere. She’ll maintain eye contact with you. If you’re out somewhere together, she’ll keep giving you light touches. In some instances, older women will be even more direct — Straight up telling you she’s single. There’s a number of other signals you could be missing if you’re not paying attention. Learn those signs and be on the look out. 5. Treat An Older Asian Woman Like Any Other Woman. Women are women and have the same wants and desires from a man — no matter what culture she hails from. That means treating her like any other woman and knowing what an older woman is looking for. Older women from the East and West want the same things in a younger man. Older women want an emotionally stable man. She wants a man who is compassionate with her feelings. Women want a man who is playful with her and respects her boundaries. Men need to be solid listeners for women from any culture. Every dirty sock that is not on your floor ups your attractiveness immediately to an older Asian woman — So clean up your dang room. Women love a man who can make her laugh but isn’t a total clown. (A guy who doesn’t stop joking ever gets old fast). 6. Don’t Guess Where She’s From. Much of the advice here is to avoid bringing up the Asian fetish that’s so common. That can be a fine line of finding out more about her without being overly fixed to it. One of the top things on that front is to not guess where she’s from. She might be from the Philippines, Japan, Korea or a number of other locations. She might also have been born in New York and has never taken a plane out of the country. So don’t go up to her the first time and greet her in one of the s. If she has an accent, you can talk to her about it much like you would any local accent. Something as simple as “You have a really cute accent” is enough to break the ice. Either she’ll open up more about it and tell you where it’s from or she won’t. Take that as your cue for what she wants. 7. When You Ask An Older Asian Women Out — Have Some Tea. While you shouldn’t focus on her being Asian, it’d be foolish to completely ignore it. If the older Asian woman you’re interested in emigrated, she’ll likely be holding on to customs and traditions. In many Asian cultures, that means tea. Ask your date if she enjoys tea. If she does, dive in deeper with what her favorite tea is, because she might likes a specific kind. Different regions of Asia have preferences like black, green or oolong.

More older women are dating younger men, survey says — here's why. Inside the trend of older women dating younger men. When it comes to dating, there's always been a double standard about age gaps.

An older man who dates a much younger woman is often applauded, while an older woman who sets her sights on a younger man is typically met with side glances and referred to as a cougar." Still, recent research suggests that a rising number of younger men are seeking older women and vice versa. Case in point? One survey found that 81% of women are open to dating someone 10 years younger than they are, and nearly 90% of men are interested in dating someone 10 years older. TODAY special anchor Maria Shriver was curious to know why these relationships are becoming more common, so she sat down with several couples and a dating expert to dig deeper into this rising trend. "The pool is already so small to find the right person for yourself. Why are we making it even smaller? Men don't." Maria spoke with matchmaker Julia Spira, who says she's been noticing this shift in the dating game for quite some time. "Women are now going to be dating like men," she explained. "These days, women have the economic power, they've got great careers, so they aren't necessarily looking for somebody to be their equal on a bank statement." Three couples, whose age differences ranged from 6-20 years, also joined in on the conversation. Tracy Tutor, a 46-year-old real estate agent, and Erik Anderson, a 26-year-old personal trainer, star in the hit Bravo TV show "Million Dollar Listing LA." Anderson told Maria what originally inspired him to ask Tutor out. "The younger girls, they really don't know what they want, and they're kind of lost. And then I feel lost. And then I saw her confidence and I was so attracted by just how she works really hard for what she wants." Tracy Tutor and Erik Anderson have a 20-year age difference between them. TODAY. Tutor also found Anderson's forward-thinking perspective refreshing. "Until I met Erik, I went out with a ton of men who were attracted innately to the fact that I was confident, successful — until we were alone. And then it was, like, 'Oh, I don't want you to have too much of an opinion,' right? Like, I like the idea of you, but not really," she explained. Laquelle Mills is six years older than her partner, Malik Rashid, and makes more money than he does, but she appreciates the fact that he can provide for her in a different way: through communication. "I definitely think he's a better communicator than me. I think this generation, I believe that they're more fearless, they're able to say how they feel in that moment, handle it and move forth," she said. Laquelle Mills is six years older than her partner, Malik Rashid. TODAY. Rashid is also not threatened by his partner's higher income. "I'm not concerned with my woman making more money than me at all," he said. Colin Willard is 16 years younger than his partner, Theresa Gage, and he believes that he has something more important to offer her than a massive salary. "The younger generation of men see that being a good partner (means) making sure your woman's fulfilled emotionally and mentally and physically," he said. There's a 16 year age difference between Colin Willard and Theresa Gage. TODAY. Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows for these couples, and they admitted that contending with outside judgments on their age gap can be challenging. "A lot of the judgment actually comes from women. With the movements that have been happening, why now would you choose to judge another woman for embracing her sexuality and her own strength and choosing to date someone younger, that would never be judged by a man dating 30 or 40 years younger?" Tutor said. Related. Health & Wellness Men confess: 22 reasons why younger guys fall for older women. Gage also acknowledged that many women who date younger men tend to worry that their partners will move on and find someone younger. "You know, in the beginning I think it was definitely part of our conversation, like, 'Are you going to trade me in for a younger model?' And his answer was, 'Well, you might trade me in for a younger model,'" she said and laughed. Still, Tutor said it's worth putting yourself out there because you never know who your perfect match might be. "The pool is already so small to find the right person for yourself. Why are we making it even smaller? Men don't.

If you've ever felt a spark with a guy eight or more years your junior but hesitated to give things a try, you might have told yourself it'll never work. The fact that most movies involving an older woman/younger man love story don't end well has helped cement that concept as a cultural truth—except, it's not true. Or at least it doesn't have to be. Yes, the dynamic brings a unique set of challenges—but it can also be pretty great, whether the goal a fling or a long-term relationship. Here's some expert-sourced advice for a woman dating a younger man. A strong connection is real, no matter the age difference. Consider French president Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte, his wife of 12 years, who is 25 years older than her husband. Or 49-year-old Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally, age 60, who chronicle their marriage in their aptly-titled book, The Greatest Love Story Ever Told . Then there's Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra. you get the picture. And according to a 2017 study from dating website EliteSingles, 450,000 of their male users between age 20 and 29 preferred dating an older woman (with 11 years being the most desirable gap). This content is imported from poll. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. Paulette Sherman, psychologist, relationship expert, and author of Dating from the Inside Out, says that like any relationship, success depends on what the people involved are bringing to the table. "You can have a 'young' 50 year old or a very mature 25 year old, depending upon their life experience. So it’s good to look carefully at the individuals rather than just fostering limiting beliefs regarding age." A younger guy can recharge your sense of adventure. To say that anyone dating someone younger is trying recapture their youth is an unfair generalization. But spending time with someone less tethered to family obligations and long-entrenched lifestyle demands can feel pretty freeing. Jess Carbino, the former in-house sociologist for dating apps Tinder and Bumble, says that her research with women over fifty revealed a strong desire to date men eight or more years younger, in part because they assume that age group will be more open to new experiences. "They find the aging process for men to be more accelerated than among women, in terms of their desires for exploration, and are interested in younger men who may be less set in their ways," she says. Related Stories. Sherman agrees that a woman who's, say, divorced with older kids may have so many obligations to juggle that someone who's accrued less "baggage" is often appealing. "They can just appreciate one another, and the moments they share." And yes, the sex can be great. The theory that men's sexual peak hits decades earlier than a woman's, making an 18 year-old man and a 35-year-old woman unlikely-yet-perfect bedfellows, comes from a study conducted way back in 1953 (and the existence of a "sexual peak" is highly debatable). But a woman over 50 has often shed inhibitions about their body, and what they need to achieve orgasm, that a 27-year-old may still be grappling with. That's enjoyable for a man at any age, contributing to a sex life Sherman deems "energetic." You'll likely be admired for the impressive stuff you've accomplished. Whether it's an established career, well-raised kids, or stories from those years you spent backpacking around Europe, you have lived. That's something to be proud of, and a man who's still in adulthood's first act just might be dazzled by the fact that you're seasoned. Related Stories. "Sometimes younger men are awed and inspired by a successful woman, while older men can feel competitive with her," says Sherman, who also points to the generational evolution in how younger people view gender roles. "They may accept a woman's ambition more, fulfill more parenting and domestic responsibilities, and be willing to be their cheerleader at work." They'll love the confidence you've gained from experience, too. No disrespect to the wonderful ladies under thirty out there, but. you're grown. You've gained wisdom over the years about life, love, and the fact that you shouldn't bother wearing sky-high heels at a crowded social event because no one can even see your feet, anyway. You know yourself. That self-assured vibe and "profound sense of purpose" can be a siren call, says Sherman. And for the rare young-yet-mature man who's got his life together "but is struggling to find a similarly-positioned woman his age, older women may seem like a very good option in terms of a romantic partner." That said, some younger guys may feel intimidated by where you're at in life. A less confident man who's just beginning to forge his own path won't always be so enamored of your history. This can cause bumps in the road when he's your date at professional engagements, or attends a blended family gathering that requires hanging with your ex-husband. Communication is key, Sherman says, and voicing feelings of jealousy and insecurity as they present themselves can go a long way. "It’s helpful for this type of couple to recognize that they don't have to share the same level of career success." "Age can be a status that creates differences in terms of power," Carbino points out. "In relationships with younger men and older women, there may be significant issues regarding power, and perceptions of dependency, that may play into unfortunate cultural tropes regarding dependency." Translation: If you detect a "you're not my mom!" undercurrent to a disagreement, that's definitely the red flag you think it is. The kids conversation is complicated. You may be at the end of your childbearing years, while he's nowhere near contemplating a family. Or, he might be eagerly awaiting fatherhood, and you're a happy empty-nester going through menopause. If things have progressed past fling status, Carbino says to tackle this conversation as soon as possible. "Those who are becoming serious should have discussions regarding their desires around family generally," she reminds us. Step up your texting game. No need to create a TikTok account and try getting current with the young folks, but as a dating apps expert, Carbino will say that men in their mid-thirties and younger "have a higher inclination to text versus call." She suggests that a woman establish expectations at the outset if she prefers a call (or actual face time, instead of iPhone FaceTime). "People fundamentally treat you the way you allow yourself to be treated, and will otherwise behave in the manner that's most consistent with their style or comfort level. So by setting the tone you may avoid frustrations." Brace yourself for judgment. Then, unite and conquer. We might've come a long way, but there's still a particular stigma around the older woman/younger man relationship. Don't be surprised if you and your beau find yourselves fielding rude-if-well-meaning questions, unfunny jokes, and remarks driven by others' disapproval and possibly even jealousy. When interviewing couples for her book When Mars Women Date, Sherman found that some men were teased by their guy friends if it seemed like they played the junior economic role in their relationship. "Oftentimes, the men themselves were happy in these roles, and the couple felt happy too. But peers and outsiders put undue pressure on them to change things, and this added a level of stress to their relationship." Carbino agrees that couples will need to develop "resiliency," and a strategy regarding how to deal with criticism from friends, family, and strangers who don't understand the attraction. Plus, as Sherman says, refusing to "succumb to outer social pressure, shame, stigma or limiting beliefs" will help your relationship survive.

Older Woman/Younger Man Relationships. Almost one-third of women between ages 40 and 69 are dating younger men (defined as 10 or more years younger). He was 27, she was 42.

Those were the ages of Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore when the couple tied the knot last year, making their highly publicized May-December romance official. But even though their older woman-younger man relationship may be among the world's most visible, it's not that unusual anymore. Braving robbing the cradle" jokes, almost one-third of women between ages 40 and 69 are dating younger men (defined as 10 or more years younger). According to a recent AARP poll, one-sixth of women in their 50s, in fact, prefer men in their 40s. It's not what you think -- the stamina or "re-boot" ability of the younger male. The women like the flexibility and sense of adventure of their more spontaneous, younger companions, Tina B. Tessina, PhD, a licensed family therapist in practice in Long Beach, Calif., and author of The Unofficial Guide to Dating Again , tells WebMD. For their part, the men like the sophistication and life success of their older mates, she explains. The much touted idea that women peak sexually in their 30s and men in their teens does not enter into it -- most of these couples are beyond both those age periods. Other Reasons Behind This Trend. According to Tessina, other reasons underlying this expansion of everyone's dating choices include: Older women are looking better every day, thanks to creative medical advances and a gym on every corner. Women are more likely to come back on the dating market because of divorce and a longer expected life span. Not as many women are looking for the picket fence and two cars. Now companionship, travel, and fun are coming to the forefront. Women may also want a man with a less-developed career who could follow them or take care of children, if that is a factor. For their part, younger men often find older women more interesting, experimental, fun to talk to, financially settled, and more adept sexually. But what about the notion that men are "hard-wired" to seek a smooth-faced, curvy receptacle for reproduction and thus are drawn to younger women? "Humans are relatively flexible species," Michael R. Cunningham, PhD, a psychologist in the department of communications at the University of Louisville, tells WebMD. "Factors other than biological can be attractive. You can override a lot of biology in pursuit of other goals." Interestingly, Cunningham did an unpublished study of 60 women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, who were shown pictures of men aged to those decades. "The women," he says, "were more interested in men their own age or older." As for the men, he says: "I guess it could be nice not to hang around a ditz with no knowledge of music or something like that." Getting Over the "Shoulds" "We have strong 'shoulds' on ways of partnering up," Kathryn Elliott, PhD, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, explains to WebMD. "We are victims of inner-critic constrictedness. We think we should only weigh 120. We should marry people within two years of our age. We pathologize anything that isn't within those shoulds." The key to making older women/younger man relationships work, Elliott says, is to match what she calls voltages. "Choose someone who is your voltage type -- has the same level of intensity about life. If the voltages are different, one becomes the pursuer and one the distancer. This can create pain." Voltages are not a factor of age, she says. "What you don't want," she explains, "is one partner wanting to go out, the other stay in, one willing to talk, the other wanting space (and silence to enjoy it)." Dealing With the Flak. Susan Winter is co-author, with Felicia Brings, of Older Women, Younger Men: New Options for Love and Romance. She has been in several relationships with men up to 20 years younger than herself. She works out a lot by her own admission (and judging by her track record in this department) and often meets partners at the gym, not the bars. Winter tells WebMD that she and her co-author interviewed more than 200 couples for their book. Though hardly a scientific study, the research surfaced three myths such couples hear every time: Myth No. 1 -- "He will leave you for a younger woman." Winter says they did not find one younger man who did this, at least for a specific woman and because they were younger. "In some cases, the man wanted children," she says, "and the relationship fell apart because of that." Myth No. 2 -- "The woman was the seducer -- Mrs. Robinson." In all 200 cases, Winter says it was the man who initiated the contact. Myth No. 3 -- "It will never last." Winter said some of the couples they met had been together 25 year or more. The average length of the relationships was 13 years. Pretty Promising Material Out There. Winter is upbeat about the younger generations. "The boomers are lost sheep," she says. "All they can do to get a woman is dangle their Porsche keys." As you peel back the decades, though, the men get "cooler," she says. Guys in their 30s get her vote. "They grew up with AIDS, they are considerate. Such men (at least the ones interested in older women) are stable and mature. They don't want to be mothered. They want a woman who knows who she is." Still, even Winter admits, this may not be for everyone. Show Sources. SOURCES: Tina B. Tessina, PhD, psychologist and author, The Unofficial Guide to Dating Again . Michael R. If you need to flag this entry as abusive, send us an email. It isn't all that surprising that Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's marriage appears to be in trouble. When they married Sept. 24, 2005 -- Demi was 42 and Ashton was 27 -- few thought it would last. Sure, at 48 Demi looks fantastic and, yes, Ashton has become a good stepdad to Demi's three kids, but many may have wondered if, sooner or later, their age difference might become an issue. While their 15-year age gap probably has nothing to do with Ashton's alleged infidelity -- you're either a cheater or you're not -- the odds may have been stacked against them from the beginning. That's because marriages in which the woman is much older than her husband often lead to divorce. Not to say that they're not happy for a while -- certainly Demi and Ashton have appeared to be, as well as the eight couples in a 2006 study by Sandra L. Caron and Nichole R. Proulx in which the wives were a decade or more older than their husbands (an admittedly small sample). Still, the women in the study admitted to a certain insecurity about aging, which is just never going to be a good thing in a relationship. Plus, the couples felt stigmatized by others, especially the wives -- and those judgments may even impact a woman's mortality. "Couples with younger husbands violate social norms and thus suffer from social sanctions," says Sven Drefahl of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research. "Since marrying a younger husband deviates from what is regarded as normal, these couples could be regarded as outsiders and receive less social support. This could result in a less joyful and more stressful life, reduced health, and finally, increased mortality." Yes, but if she could just not worry about what everyone else was thinking, she'd at least have a huge smile on her face when she kicks off. Judgment aside, marriages in which the wife is older than her husband are more likely to be troubled -- and the age difference doesn't have to be all that big. In fact, couples in which the wife is just five years older are three times more likely to divorce than couples of the same age. Researchers don't say why, but perhaps it's for the reasons researchers Caron, a professor of family relations and human sexuality at the University of Maine, and Proulx, a marriage and family therapist, of the 2006 study discovered -- society just isn't ready to accept December-May marriages as easily as it does May-December marriages. Maybe we just can't shake the image of Mrs. Robinson out of our mind, or maybe it's because there just aren't that many of them. Just 5.4 percent of wives are five years older than their hubbies, and only 1.3 percent are 10 years older, but those numbers are rising, in fact they doubled between 1960 and 2007. Still, despite all the Miss Cougar contests, cougar cruises and cougar how-to dating books, more older women seem to be dating or hooking up with younger men than actually marrying them -- most likely because the women are divorced and aren't too interested in saying "I do" all over again. Although men still skew much younger when looking for love online, most of us tend to marry someone close to our own age. That doesn't mean we haven't seen our share of high-profile couplings where the men are much older than their wives -- like Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who have 25 years between them, and Newt and Callista Gingrich, with 23 years between them -- though it still isn't all that common. And some research suggests having a much older husband isn't so bad, those marriages don't seem to divorce that much. Some studies say if a wife is five or more years younger than her hubby, they're much more likely to avoid divorce. Others say she needs to be four to six years younger. According to a Canadian study, "Divorce rates are lowest when the husband is two to ten years older than the wife or when the magnitude of their age difference is extremely large." And still others say a man should marry a woman about 15 years younger -- at least if he wants to make sure his kids survive. All of which should make boomer and senior men very happy indeed. But perhaps not boomer women who are looking for love. A Stanford study confirms what they already know: The older a man is when he marries after age 40, the greater the likelihood his wife will be a lot younger -- whether he's rich and educated or not. Men in their 40s tend to marry women about seven years younger, men in their 50s marry women 11 years younger, and men in their 60s marry women 13 years younger. Still, the optimistic outlook for May-December marriages may be masking the mortality issue, who knows how many might have ended in divorce if hubby hadn't died first, notes a 2005 government study of United Kingdom marriages since 1963. Death is a sure way to avoid divorce. Although more research is called for, a preliminary finding of that same U.K. study may offer a ray of hope -- there doesn't appear to be any strong association between age differences and the probability of divorce. So, the next time Hugh Hefner gets engaged to a 20-something or Buzz Aldrin dates someone 30 years his junior, perhaps we should encourage them, chances are, their marriages won't end in divorce.

10 Great Romance Movies Where An Older Woman Dates A Younger Man, According To Reddit. When looking for movies that showcase a romance where there is a large age gap between the two leads, viewers can be met with an ensemble of films that seek to sexualize and fetishize the age difference. Domslayer992 was just one fan that had become tired of the representation of age gaps in romance movies. Therefore, they turned to Reddit users to recommend some movies that showcase this in a better light. These movies create some lovely onscreen representations of love between an older woman and a younger man. Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool (2017) The heartbreaking but wholesome story of Peter Turner and Hollywood film star Gloria Grahame is one to behold. Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool showcases the history of their love story through memories due to the return of her breast cancer. The romantic drama uses visual storytelling to create a lovely onscreen portrayal of a true romance that very much took till death do us part seriously. Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool may be tragically sad but is labeled by many fans including throwaway23er56uz as "a great movie, based on, or maybe only inspired by, the real-life of Gloria Grahame". It showcased the ups and downs of romance and paid very little attention to the obvious age gap between the pair. This is what made it such a heartwarming watch with the couple's families even being supportive of their infectious love for one another. White Palace (1990) At first, White Palace looks as though it is going to be another stereotypical sleazy addition to the age gap romance movie. However, before it gets a chance to enter that world, the movie surprises its viewers and creates an endearing love story. White Palace sees a burst of chemistry when Max first meets Nora which soon leads to the couple being completely enamored with one another. According to TheBigSalad84, the movie is "a good one that not enough people have seen". White Palace creates a conversation that strays away from the stereotype that renders older characters uninterested in sex, whilst avoiding the seedy older woman/younger man complex. The Graduate (1967) The Graduate contains one of the most complicated love triangles in history, making the movie such a compelling watch. The relationship between Ms. Robinson and Ben is something of a power dynamic where she holds all the power. Unfortunately, this plays into the stereotypes of a relationship with a large age gap. Whilst the movie does adhere to those tropes, it also provides an insight into the impact of age gaps. Domslayer992 found the movie to be a "great examination of age gap relationships and how being in different stages in life could affect the relationship dynamic" through showcasing the conflicting lives of Ben and Ms. Robinson. The movie provides interesting dialogue regarding the couples working dynamic and contrasting lifestyles. The Reader (2008) The Reader is a heart-wrenching story of love and betrayal that had fans hooked by its representation of love between Hanna and Michael. It impacts the audience when Hanna ends up betraying Michael due to the investment in their story. The love story between the two saw them act as role models to one another, with Hanna embracing life for what it is and Michael becoming more mature throughout their relationship. Reddit user inquirerman was as enamored with Kate Winslet as Hanna expressing how The Reader is a "wonderful Movie. Kate Winslet is mmmmmmm". The movie may not have the happy ending fans are after! Man Of Steel (2013) There are many ways the DCEU has changed since the release of Man Of Steel with the movie proving to be a hit with fans but many viewers failed to recognize the hidden age gap between Lois Lane and Superman. Like every superhero movie, the hero protects the girl and their romance is an unconditional one. It undergoes so many challenges and setbacks but showcases that love always wins. The relationship wasn't so much about the onscreen ages although some fans contested that Lois Lane is meant to be in her thirties. Clark, meanwhile, is just getting started in his career as Superman. Reddit user what_about_smee shared that they "doubt it’s meant to be noticeable". The age gap adds another element of romance that acts as a welcome representation of love with an age gap. Don Jon (2013) Don Jon is a surprising movie that on the surface looks like a seedy romantic comedy. However, it is much more than that, especially in its representation of Esther and Don Jon. Esther and Don Jon represented one of the most open and honest portrayals of mutual understanding whilst also having a great sexual bond. Their relationship showcased a healthy portrayal of love through non-judgment with each of the characters developing throughout their relationship. 22grande22 shared that "Don Jon is great", especially in its representation of an older woman and younger man. The Age Of Adaline (2015) The Age Of Adaline is one fantasy romance movie that played with viewers' heartstrings. It was Adaline's relationship with Ellis that won the hearts of fans. The pair may have looked the same age but Adaline was over 100 years old when she fell desperately in love with Ellis. Unfortunately, his father was a previous love of hers. The love between the pair was beautiful with something viewers would see in a Hollywood movie. Her love for Ellis is so strong that she broke her rule of dating, making it a heartwarming watch. Olivebranch99 shared that the movie "doesn't get near enough recognition" especially for its romance that depicts an uplifting representation of love with an extremely large age gap. I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007) I Could Never Be Your Woman may be a hilarious romantic comedy but it also delves into the exact stereotypes that haunt older women who enter into a relationship with a younger man. Adam is one person that doesn't care what others think about him, which leads to what is a healthy relationship between the pair. This forces Rosie to think of their relationship differently. The movie removes the restraints age puts on love and makes for a wholesome, heartwarming, and hilarious watch.
