Recently I wanted to refresh my profile photo and kept seeing apps that promise “instant headshots” from regular selfies. I’m tempted, but I’m a bit wary about where those uploads end up and who can access them later. Terms of service are long and vague, and I don’t want my photos floating around forever. Has anyone actually checked how safe this is in practice or noticed ways to control what gets stored and what can be deleted?

Use neutral backdrops so you’re not revealing location or personal documents, strip metadata if you’re extra cautious, and keep a separate email for creative apps to avoid tying everything to your main accounts. It also helps to regularly clear older uploads and store only the final portraits you actually use. When you treat these tools like any other online service—share minimally, review settings, and rotate passwords—you keep the convenience without giving up more privacy than necessary.
